Dobříkov commemorated its most notable resident with a portrait in patinated bronze
On Saturday 24 October 2026, the sculptural portrait of Václav Jaroslav Klofáč was ceremonially unveiled in Dobříkov in the Ústí nad Orlicí district. The work was created by sculptor Sebastian Wojnar. The portrait is executed in patinated bronze at larger-than-life scale.
The commemorative ceremony took place in front of the Municipal Office building. It was organised by the municipality of Dobříkov and held under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. The programme included speeches, the unveiling itself, and the laying of wreaths and flowers.
Václav Jaroslav Klofáč (1868–1942) was a journalist and politician, one of the founders of the Czech National Social Party, and from 1918 to 1920 the first Minister of National Defence of Czechoslovakia. He later served as Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the National Assembly.
His connection to Dobříkov comes from his country estate, to which he withdrew from political life in the 1930s. In 1930 he purchased the dilapidated wooden Church of All Saints, built in 1679 in Subcarpathian Ruthenia, and had it moved to Dobříkov. It was restored the following year and has been a protected cultural monument since 1963.
