TONDA THE HOMELESS MAN SERIES

SOUBOR BEZDOMOVEC TONDA

material
PLASTER
dimensions
A series of portrait studies documenting a powerful encounter with a homeless man found injured on a winter night. These sculptural portraits, created in both plaster and bronze, capture different moments and expressions from that first meeting. Each work explores the thin line between genuine help and mere alibi, serving as a meditation on human compassion, vulnerability, and our responsibility to others. The series preserves Tonda's face and presence as a lasting testimony to this unforgettable encounter.
Project Info:
I found Tonda lying on the pavement, it was winter, late at night. His lip and forehead were broken. He was covered in blood, so I offered to help him, an ambulance took him away. This moment was powerful for me and his face is etched in my memory. At the same time, this situation made me think about how thin the line can be between help and alibi. I created several portraits and sketches of Tonda.
This is the first portrait in a series of Tonda portraits. The movement captures my first glimpse of Tonda.
