Adam offers his ribs. Is he in ecstasy of fear, pain or joy? Humility, courage, sacrifice. Sacrifice for higher purpose. Is it an expression of the deepest love, or a loss of one’s own identity? I believe it is a fundamental reflex, a part of human nature—to help give oneself for the sake of others. For example, donating blood, bone marrow, or even an organ transplant.

My wife has sacrificed a large part of herself for me, due to my work and myself. She creates an extraordinary space for my work. My wife is my Adam, while I am the Eve.
